Time

It is not just about a clock

I was reading a discussion in a Facebook group where this woman’s husband had been offered a position abroad and people were helping with the decision.  One women chimed in with this great inspirational words about how you can’t let life pass you by and you only have one life and you must grab the opportunities when you can but then ended it with

“Once the kids have left school we are going to live in Spain”

I was left thinking to myself, that is not grabbing life by the horns, that is being cautious. If you truly want to make your dreams come true, if you really have a desire to live a perfect lifestyle then do it now.

The “time” thing comes up a lot with my friends, peers and colleagues. I have been guilty of it too. But one of my mentors constantly sprouted the mantra of ‘be prolific, not perfect” and my one of my dearest friends always quotes ‘procrastination is the thief of time’ at me.

Time is a factor that you could be using as an excuse that is holding you back.

It’s just not the right time

Have you ever thought about starting your own business, even just a spark of an idea? Are you visions boards covered with your dream lifestyle? Do you want to sell up and travel the world for the rest of your life? Do you ever sit at your beige soulless corporate desk and dream of what it would be like to fulfil your own lifestyle and/or business dreams? Do you ever drift off, when on your crowded commute and think about how incredible it would be to spend your days living your life like your visions boards? Do you then immediately stop yourself with thoughts that it is not the right time?  I need to wait until the time is perfect? Are these the type of thoughts that go through your head?

It is not the right time to think about starting my own business because …

  • I don’t have enough money saved
  • I need to prepare more
  • It is only six months until I get my bonus
  • The children are still in school
  • My partner is away a lot for work
  • I don’t have enough time to work on a business full time

and the list goes on and on.

What excuses do you give yourself when it comes to time?

The problem with time and waiting

The problem is that waiting for the right time to change your life, create your perfect lifestyle and start your own business is it just another brick wall,  giving yourself another reason not to take a step forward. In my post ‘Are your limiting beliefs holding you back?’.  There is no reason other than your own limiting beliefs that you can’t live and do exactly what you want and when you want to do it.

Time is a ticking though and whilst I truly believe it is never too late to start, you don’t want to hold off until tomorrow what you could have started today. Today is a world in which you can create income from exactly doing what you want to do.

Rachel Khoo did not allow her tiny kitchen in her very small studio apartment stop her from starting a restaurant and filming a very successful BBC series The Tiny Paris Kitchen. She didn’t wait until she had the money for the flat or the perfect kitchen.

Jennery Kutcher did not stop the fact that she had no formal photography training from stopping her leaving her job to become a photographer and then building a million dollar business helping other business women. She didn’t wait until she had a ton of professional training and business degree.

Marie Forleo didn’t wait for TV offers to come in she just started Mario Forleo TV and spoke about what she wanted to speak about.

Cenk Uygur (sometimes I do mention the successes of men) fed up with mainstream news programming set up his incredibly streaming news channel on YouTube.

Just look to any successful vlogger, blogger and see that they didn’t wait, they didn’t wait for the right time they just go going, set up a blog, set up YouTube channel and just started.

They didn’t allow time to be their enemy or their excuse they just got started and are reaping the rewards for it.

It is time to get ahead of the clock

So you have your list of reasons (excuses) but now it is time to get real about why you really are stopping yourself from changing your life.

Is it I don’t have enough money saved or is it really if I find out it is not as much as I think it would be I would have to get started?

Is it I need to prepare more or is it the more I can prep and plan the less I have to face the things I don’t understand or may scare me more?

Is it really that the children are at school or is the children at school is a really good excuse not to get started?

Is that I don’t have enough time to work on a business full time or is it that I am too scared to make this a priority in my life?

I know this seems harsh but if you really want to live your vision boards then you need to cut the bullshit with yourself.

Steps to take

We all have the same 24 hours and it is what you give priority too that will make and break where you are in your life.  Imagine what Beyonce or Orpah would do with 24 hours of your life?

So stop playing the time game and get started?

  • Start a blog
  • Set up a YouTube Channel
  • Get a website
  • Create a mastermind group
  • Book that trip
  • Connect with people who are already doing it

Don’t allow another second of the clock to tick away time that could have been used stepping you towards your dreams.  The right time for you to live your dream lifestyle is now.
