You can work for a boss or you can be the boss

I get it…..

I get it, I have been there, I have been through it too.

I worked in the corporate world for over twenty years. I have managed teams, I have implemented projects, I have held senior roles in major programmes.

Throughout my corporate career, I have been responsible for making sure that people get their money, drugs and TV programmes.

However, there were rare points during this span of time that I could truly say that I loved what I was doing. I was satisfied, I made some good friends, I learnt a lot but for most of this period, in the back of my head, I could find myself saying “Is this it?”.

Is this you

Is this you? Do you have a successful career but often find yourself wondering if this is all there is? Do you struggle to see the value in what you are doing? I remember working on a project for the wealth subsidiary of a bank on how to aid clients in getting their money easier. I spent a lot of time on this project thinking WTF, why do I care how quickly the 1% of the global population get their money.

Do you think there is more to what you want to do? Do you have a dream and a desire to start your own business? Do you have a passion outside your job that you would love to turn into something that you could do every day and earn money from it? Do you have these voices in your head that are constantly egging you on to make big changes in your life?

What would you do it you won the lottery?

I always tell the story of the question of “What would you do if you won the lottery?” and how I am yet to find a woman, with a job, who answers this question with “exactly what I am doing now”. You can read it on my blog of the same name. Is that is you if I asked you that question, would you tell me, you would want to do something different to what you are doing now? Then my next question would be “Why are you not doing it?”

Why are you walking a path you don’t want to be on?

Time to take action

Maybe it is time to take some action, maybe it is time to take a serious look at how you could take your passion and turn it into a viable, high income earning business? Maybe it is time to start listening to your desires and not your limiting beliefs. Maybe it is time to start conversations with those that walk the walk, people who have been where you are and are now successful female entrepreneurs. Maybe it is time to seek some advice from experts, those with knowledge and experience instead of the people you may be surrounded by who have never walked that walk and allow their own fears into the advice they give you.

There has never been a better time to start your own business, to allow yourself to shine. It has never been more important to follow your own path rather than the path of least resistance that you have been expected to follow since you left school. It has never been a more exciting time to be a female entrepreneur. A worldwide market has opened up to the most micro niche businesses. It is absolutely possible to run a global business whilst sitting outside waiting for the kids to visit ballet or cricket.

Don’t waste another commute thinking “Is this it?” put your idea on paper, surround yourself with like-minded entrepreneurs and seek some advice from a coach who can help you turn your dream into a reality.
